BattView for Apple Watch

After almost a year of development, the Apple Watch version of BattView is now available.

What is BattView for Apple Watch

Just like the popular iOS app, it tests Bluetooth device battery levels

  • Learns which devices have batteries for faster updates in future.
  • Performs more comprehensive full scans to discover new devices that might have been missed.

Installing BattView on the Apple Watch is quick and easy.  Here's how:

Advanced Editing Functions

Running powerful apps on an Apple Watch is challenging. There are many watch restrictions that limit app processing and wireless communication. BattView maintains list of non-battery devices to be ignored and battery devices to be prioritized. Edit functions let you optimize scanning performance and speed.

Rest assured BattView is smart enough to efficiently scan devices.  With Edit functions you can optionally make it smarter.

FAQ

Q: Why can't I get battery levels from all my devices?

A: There are a couple of challenges:

  1. Many Bluetooth devices support only one connection at a time. It is best to run Battery Tests before opening any other apps. This lets GearView read battery levels before the respective devices are  connected to other apps.
  2. BattView supports Bluetooth devices that do not require secure pairing with a proprietary app. Devices like Garmin bike computers or Cycliq cameras will not report battery levels to a general purpose app like BattView.

I also recently discovered that BattView works well after finishing a ride. I shut down all my apps like Zwift and Stages Cycling. This makes battery scans fast and easy.
